Steps:
1. Added a UIView object in Repository where XPath is showing ".//table/container[@caption='']".
2. Click on EDIT... button
The Searching for Elements... dialog is displayed.
3. Click on Cancel or the [X] Close button or press <Escape> key
Result:
Cannot cancel or close this "Searching for Elements..." dialog.
Looks like the only way to stop it is to do End Task in Task Manager.

Re: Cancel does not work in Searching for Elements...
Hello gilbar16,
Thank you for reporting this issue.
We were able to reproduce the issue and are currently working on a solution.
May I ask which version of Ranorex you currently use?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Johannes

Re: Cancel does not work in Searching for Elements...
It is now six months later and the problem is still happening. I've upgraded and am running Ranorex 6.2.1 on a Windows 10 machine.
This is troublesome because when the problem occurs the only option is to kill the Ranorex.exe process. Killing the process causes the user to lose all unsaved changes - which just occurred to me again.

This issue was originally reported in October 2015, They may not be monitoring this thread. I suggest submitting a new threat or contacting Ranorex support directly.ChuckFirment wrote:It is now six months later and the problem is still happening. Hi ChuckFirment,
I'm afraid to tell you that this issue was not fixed so far.
If the Ranorex add-on in Internet Explorer is enabled, you shouldn't experience the issue. Could you double-check if the add-on is enabled and if this resolves the issue?
Kind Regards,
Johannes

Re: Cancel does not work in Searching for Elements...
Johannes,
Yes, the Ranorex plugin is installed and enabled in IE. The plugin file date is Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at 3:37 PM, version 6.2.1.0.
In the last few days this has been happening more and more and I continue to lose data every time it happens. It's gotten quite frustrating. Is there anything that can be done to help get this issue resolved?
Thank you,
Chuck Firment

Hi Chuck,
Sorry for not replying sooner. I'm afraid we can't reproduce the issue with enabled IE add-on. Please try updating to the latest version of Ranorex, 7.0.1, and let me know if this resolves the issue.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards,
Johannes

Re: Cancel does not work in Searching for Elements...
I am seeing the same issue with IE 11.0 and Ranorex 7.2. it happens quite frequently and I can only kill the Ranorex session via Task Manager otherwise I am stuck and cant use Ranorex.
Can support team advise please on this issue ? I have checked IE plug-in and it has been installed.

Hi,
I'm not a Ranorex support guy, but I'm going to suggest what I think they would suggest you too At first, please try to reproduce your problem with most recent Ranorex 8.2.1. If you don't have 8.x license yet, you can still use it in trial mode. Ranorex 7.2 is way too old and no longer supported.
At next, have you tried to reproduce the problem on another machine? If the problem happens just on your computer, it may be caused by something installed/corrupted on your machine. In this case, I would suggest to uninstall and then reinstall Ranorex. Do not just reinstall existing version! And finally, make sure there are installed all required libs and system components (eventually reinstall them)...

If the problem is still reproducible with 8.2.1, I would suggest to contact Ranorex support via their online support form, available here:
https://www.ranorex.com/support-query/
Because of pretty rare nature of the issue, they may require access to your system via remote session.
