Chrome and Chromium dropped support for the NPAPI Flash play

Post by Support Team » Fri Sep 18, 2015 1:38 pm

Hello everybody,

Support for the NPAPI Flash player was recently removed from Chrome and Chromium browsers. The alternatively supported PPAPI player does not yet support Adobe’s Flash debug player, which is needed to test Flash/Flex applications using the Ranorex pre-loader approach for instrumentation.

The official statement of Chromium can be read here: NPAPI deprecation.

How to continue Flash/Flex testing?

It is still possible to use Chrome and Chromium to test your Flash/Flex applications using Ranorex. You can either load the Ranorex Lib into your Flash/Flex application or load the Ranorex Module into your Flash/Flex application.
The more convenient way for instrumentation (Ranorex pre-loader approach) still works fine for Firefox and Internet Explorer, but not for Chrome/Chromium anymore.

Please note: Browsers simply host the embedded Flash/Flex application, which usually behaves identical in different browsers. Therefore, it might be sufficient to test Flash/Flex in one browser only.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
Your Ranorex Team.
