GUI Automation of Web, why not detect the ID/NAME Attribute?

Post by automator67 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 8:01 pm

I would like to know why Ranorex cannot detect the WebGui-Controls based on their HTML ID and/or NAME.

While doing the DumpTree... I even found that Ranorex makes the child element assign the wrong name.
An HTML link object which points to a website such as www.amazon.com will become assigned the name www.amazon.com. This is wrong since it should have assigne the name that was given within the HTML tag.

I am really interested to use Ranorex to test Webbased applications, but if you rely completely on the visible text, then it is not enough.

Did I oversee something or do I need the Pro version to get the WebControls based on their real names?

Ranorex is specialized on Windows Applications at the moment. In a web page you can only automate the Controls, which you can find with the RanorexSpy tool.

We are currently working on some new features, but we will release this version only next year.
