HRESULT: 0x80004003 (E_POINTER)

Post by fab29 » Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:52 pm

Hello,

Since upgrading our Ranorex installations to version 10.5.1, we have been experiencing problems on several workstations.
We make sure that we all use the same version of Ranorex to be able to share our projects. This is why we are not using the latest version.

The problem occurs when launching an existing project:

Or when trying to create a new project:

In both cases, it shows an exception "HRESULT: 0x80004003 (E_POINTER)".

I am the administrator of my workstation and I was able to uninstall/install Visual C++/.NET and even Visual Studio.

Unfortunately I am still stuck on my problem.

I think that I have the right solution indicated on this page:

Screenshots of my installation:

Any idea how to solve the problem?

Because now I can't work at all on my workstation...

I got that a lot with Ranorex v10.5.3/.4. It seemed to be a bit of a lottery whether it occured or not. I often found that opening Visual Studio first helped, but I wasn't on Ranorex v10.5.x for long enough to determine any pattern. Currently back on Ranorex v10.1.6 because I haven't upgraded other machines and need things to be on the same level too.

Either way, opening VS or trying Ranorex again seemed to resolve the problem in my limited experience, but it was intermittent for me.

Thank you. I was able to get Ranorex working again after removing Visual Studio 2022 and then installing the 2019 version. That said, this is a problem with some of my projects developed in C# with Visual Studio 2022. Wouldn't a "stand alone" version of Ranorex be possible?

I have both VS2019 and VS2022 installed. When I said "opening Visual Studio" I was actually referring specifically to VS2022, which is the main version I use these days. FWIW, I've not seen this problem occur other than in Ranorex.

Vague, I know. I've just not experimented enough to have much else to offer.
