You are asking if you can automate JSF web applications with Ranorex, right?
If so the general answer is yes, since Ranorex supports HTML and since the front end of a JSF web application is also HTML.
So I would highly recommend to use the web plugin and not to use image based automation.
When you don't want to use IDs for object identification you can get rid of them by following the steps described here:
