Licensing Necessary?

Post by John002014 » Mon Dec 16, 2013 8:05 am

Hi Team,

I know it is a wired question to put on, but I cannot help it out.

Do we really need Ranorex Licensing to automate the test cases?
why because, I saw VSTS provide Ranorex DLL files, where I can able to make use of Ranorex code on Visual Studio and do not need Ranorex anymore ?

When comes to object repository, I may use firebug to identify the object as well as Ranorex Spy (from trail version).

Pardon!
I am just a beginner using Ranorex.
This question came from our development team. And I am unable to answer them.

Thanks,
John

Not sure I understand your question but since Ranorex is neither an open source nor a free software I doubt you can use it without paying.

Yes, licensing is required in order to continue use of Ranorex beyond the 30 day evaluation period.

It is a very powerful and flexible system and is worth the small price (especially compared to the other players in this space like QTP).

And support from the Ranorex team is great too.

Thanks for all quick replies.

But my question is Why do we need License when we can use the Ranorex dll files with Visual Studio beyond 30 days of trial period ?

I can simply import all Ranorex dll files into VS code and then build a project and able to run successfully.

Apart from object repository, I can able to use every other feature of Ranorex with VSTS and made my task accomplish.

Again, why I need a LICENSE.

Thanks,
John

First, you need a license because without it you are violating the law in many places. (And if you continue to ask about doing this, I would suggest that you are going to (and probably should) get banned from the site for discussing illegal activity, so be very careful how you proceed here...)

Not to mention the fact that you are stealing the product that these guys worked very hard on and deserve to be paid for.

Second, the DLL SHOULD stop working after the trial license expires, regardless of whether you are using VS or Ranorex Studio.

Wonderful KRSTCS !

I might get banned... but the flaw is a flaw.

I am a typically tester, and always try to BREAK THE APPLICATION :)
But this time it is a software :P I am not ready to use the software illegally, rather, I was trying to find the pitfalls for Ranorex.

Anyways, no offense, I think I got my answer from your post
"the DLL SHOULD stop working after the trial license expires, regardless of whether you are using VS or Ranorex Studio".

And I am expecting this kind of answer from support team.

Thanks,
John

When the evaluation period is over and you don't have a license, you will still be able to compile your tests, but you will not be able to execute them.
Nor can you use the Ranorex Tools (Spy, Recorder, Studio) without a valid license.

You will definitely not get banned for asking questions in this forum :)

It would have been astonishing if such an easy way to use Ranorex without paying existed.

Thank You Alex :)
Thanks for your support.

So you mean to say, user can compile the code but he cannot able to execute the code without Ranorex License even though he is on Visual Studio. Am I right ?

Let me try it out :P

Thanks,
John

My warning was just that, a warning. I don't want anyone to get banned for in-appropriate posts. There have been people on other sites that sell products who PROMOTED using the products without paying, so I was mainly trying to warn against doing that.

Glad I could help otherwise. :D
