New 10.1.6- feature "HTML reports can now be opened in Chrome and Edge" does not work

Post by Patrick Hollerbach » Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:14 am

Hi there,

we recently installed Ranorex 10.1.6 because of this feature:
HTML reports can now be opened in Chrome and Edge
We tested this with a simple demo project (only setup, one testcase, teardown with 4 Modules), but Chrome and Edge are only showing "Loading data file content, please wait..."

Seems this wasn't tested before shipping ;-)

We use Windows 10 SAC 20H2 (64bit) with Chrome Version 97.0.4692.99 64bit and Edge Version 97.0.1072.76 64bit.

Regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for reporting this issue. It does not work for me too. I just reported it to Ranorex.

Hi,

A little twist in this matter :) The feature actually works. There is just missing one very important detail ;) Both Chrome and Edge must be started with flag --allow-file-access-from-files
You can either add this flag to Chrome/Edge shortcut, (right after chrome.exe or msedge.exe). But this will not help in case you want to open report file by double clicking the HTML file! In this case, the flag must be added to Windows registry as well, namely ChromeHTML or MSEdgeHTM...

Hi Pavel,

thank you for your reply. Ranorex Support told me the same "workaround".

Sorry for saying that, this workaround is a crap. Internet Explorer will be retired in June 2022, so there is will be no chance to open a html-report "out of the box" with modern browsers. I'm really disappointed. Hoping they will develop a solution which works without starting chrome / edge with this special argument.

Regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Agree. This "workaround" is not a viable solution. And Ranorex folks are already aware of this problem ;)

Apologies for reviving this old thread, but has this issue ever been adressed?
We are running 10.1.6 still, but I haven't seen anything about it being mentioned in future versions changelogs.

+1

In my opinion it is a needed main feature that an test report can be opened without issues via html.

I wrote to ranorex support regarding this issue and got this answer:
I have asked this issue again Internally and got the confirmation that the workaround suggested is compulsory. Basically the workaround is needed because it is more a chrome issue and its not related to Ranorex Studio therefore we cant do anything better to improve that.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further question related to this issue.
