Ranorex 4.1.0.25227 doesn't support Chrome 37

Post by Liz Liu » Wed Sep 03, 2014 9:25 pm

Description:

We need use GUI HTML5 test automation in Chrome.

Our company purchased Testshell 5.1.473. In testshell Ranorex version is 4.1.0.25227 .
If I click Ranorex spy or use validate button in Ranorex recorder, Ranorex will treat all UI elements in Chrome page as a whole. This means Ranorex cannot identify UI elements in Chrome, it treats all UI elements in Chrome as one UI element.

Chrome doesn’t support Ranorex Automation 4.1. The Ranorex Automation extension are not able to be enabled in Chrome.

When I open chrome in ranorex, it will prompts message which tells me that UI elements identifications capabilities for chrome are limited.
And as I said above, I am not able to enable Renorex4.1 Add-on in Chrome.

Then I try to download and use free-trailer Ranorex 5.12 . I fount the extension for chrome is Ranorex Automation 1.0.2. It still treat all UI elements in Chrome page as a whole.

Could you tell me how to fix it?

Support for Chrome 32 and higher was added in Ranorex version 4.1.6, so you will need to use at least 4.1.6 or higher versions of Ranorex for testing Chrome 37. It is recommended that you use the newest Ranorex version (5.1.2).

With Ranorex 5.1.0, due to changes in Chrome 36, Ranorex moved the Chrome extension into the Google Web Store. You will need to download the extension from the store (using the Ranorex Instrumentation Wizard) and install it. Once installed, you will need to enable the extension in Chrome (this is probably the issue you are dealing with now). I would also suggest that you "check" both of the checkboxes under the extension on the chrome://extensions page (Allow in Incognito and Allow access to local files).

The Ranorex team will probably not be able to provide very much assistance with 3rd-party tools like Testshell since they are not the creators of those tools.

Can you send a snapshot of the website to [email protected]? See this page for information on creating a Ranorex snapshot: http://www.ranorex.com/support/user-gui ... files.html.

This might help the Ranorex team determine what the issue is.
