Ranorex OS Compatibility (Explorer)

Post by elis » Mon Nov 18, 2013 6:52 am

Hi,

Does Ranorex supports OS compatibility? for example an action that was recorded on Win7 and use Win7 Explorer fails to run on WinXP since it has a different Explorer Window.

Thanks,
Eli

In general, if your tests are developed and run on one (supported) operating system, they will also run on all other (supported) operating systems - provided that the application is the same and also behaves the same on all OSs.

As you already wrote, Windows Explorer changed dramatically from Windows XP to Windows Vista (and higher Windows versions). It is actually a new application only with the same name. That's why tests developed for Windows XP Explorer will not run properly with the Windows Vista/7 Explorer. Sorry for that!

If you just need Windows Explorer to start an application, I recommend using the "Run Application" recorder action instead which works the same on all supported Windows OSs.
