Ranorex Recording using Xpath Locations?

Post by LaurenL » Fri Aug 30, 2013 3:27 pm

Hey guys, I'm extremely new to Ranorex(3 days) and thought of an idea but I'm not sure how to do it or if its even possible.

Basically I want to use the recorder to automate tests, but it is not reliable when used on other computers. So my thought was, can I edit the user code after doing the recording and change the locations to an Xpath location for that object?

I have been toying around with it and am just unsure of how I would write this code. Also, I think I may be able to edit the reference path in the repository to an XPath location.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello,

Welcome to Ranorex :-)

You might need to adjust the RanoreXPath of a repository item in order to make it reliable/stable when your test is running on other machines. Please take a look at our User Guide for detailed information about repository and RanoreXPath.

I recommend you to register to one of our free Webinars to get a good overview of Ranorex.
Our Screencasts might help you to get ideas how to modify the RanoreXPath as well.

Hi Markus,

Thank you so much for the reply. I was actually able to find the solution (doing pretty much exactly what you suggested) a couple days ago.

I did not know about the webinar and will certainly look in to it. Thank you very much.

Lauren
