Regional UI Validation Tests
Regional UI Validation Tests
So i am Demo'ing the software and so far Ranorex is suiting my needs very well but i have a question for the type of initial test i am wanting to build. My goal is to regression test UI elements with multiple Regions. I need to verify that the application text is being translated correctly between english, spanish, french, etc.. but my elements 'automationid' gets changed once the region is changed. So i was thinking i could create an excel spreadsheet with the default, english, automationid and then have all language translations in the same spreadsheet. Then i could determine the region the OS is currently set to, use that to grab the correct automationid name from the spreadsheet and then continue on with my tests and validations. Is this something that is possible easily? I see that i can create variables directly from the recorded tests and also from the repository items but i dont see an easy way to do that with the XPath of the mapped item itself.

Hello mkirkland,
Welcome to Ranorex.
In order to use variables within the RxPath of your stored repository elements you need to create them within your repository. A detailed description on how to use variables within the Repository can be found here: http://www.ranorex.com/support/user-gui ... html#c2970
Hope this information helps.

Robert

Re: Regional UI Validation Tests
I read through this example previously and it did help me understand the way the variables work within the repository. But is there a way to move this to a spreadsheet? I want to be able to easily test the application in each language, so some(most) of the control names will change to the native language so those variables will change each time the OS regional settings change. It would be best to have 1 test that can be run for every language, instead of 1 test for EACH language.
I have attached the example excel file.

Hello mkirkland,
Unfortunately, the topic is too comprehensive to discuss this within this forum post.
I would highly recommend attending one of our free online webinars
There are many topics covered and it’s really a good way to get to know Ranorex. Especially, the Best Practice Webinar is concerned with Data-Driven Testing (with External Data Sources).
If there are any further questions, you can also write an email to [email protected]
