SCOM monitoring and Ranorex

Post by nico » Wed May 27, 2015 7:10 pm

Does anyone have any experience with using Ranorex testsuite in combination with SCOM monitoring?

I have no experience with SCOM, so I am not sure what the import options are.

I've never used SCOM either, but if we knew what you were trying to accomplish we might be able to help with the Ranorex side of things. Can you be more specific about what are you trying to accomplish?

Are you testing SCOM functionality (unless you work for Microsoft I would doubt this one, but who knows...)?

Are you using Ranorex to automate some portion of SCOM (which is ironic to me because isn't that supposed to be what SCOM does for your server management??? Automating automation... :D)?

What do you mean by "import options"?
Shortcuts usually aren't...

SCOM monitoring will be used to monitor the several SQL, Web and Sharepoint servers.

You can have a server that is running correctly, but that doesn't mean that all functions of applications are still functioning properly. Is something we have discovered recently.

So the idea is to use the regression test scripts build in Ranorex and execute them every hour/10 minutes, to ensure the key functionalities are still working correctly. If the testscript fails, this needs to be reported to SCOM, so they can report it on the general dashboard.

I will contact our supplier of SCOM, to see if they offer an agent of some sort to read/understand/translate Ranorex reports.

But if someone already has implemented such as solution, I gladly read about it, before I start to reinventing the wheel.
