Start time Ranorex

Post by MB_wiko » Thu Mar 02, 2017 9:24 am

Hello

I still have some problems with start time of Ranorex, perhaps other customers has the same problems with Ranorex and we can benefit from your experiences:

In the first weeks we used Ranorex. It started very quickly. After recording more and more test cases Ranorex starts very slow. It needs 7-15 minutes for starting the test suite. Does someone has the same problemes with Ranorex 6.2.1? I created a new repository with few test cases and Ranorex starts very quick. Seemes to be a problem of Ranorex, when we saved many test cases. Is there a possibility to "zip" test cases? Or a possibility to start quicker?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

Please answer the following questions...

How many test cases and individual recordings you have in the test suite?
Are you using data connectors (which kind)?
Are you loading the test suite from a local drive (shared/network drives are not recommended supported)?
Are you using integrated TFS?

How many test cases and individual recordings you have in the test suite? I estimate 200-250 test cases, recordings about 450-650.

Are you using data connectors (which kind)? no

Are you loading the test suite from a local drive (shared/network drives are not recommended supported)? yes, local stored

Are you using integrated TFS? What means this, I don't know the meaning of this word.

I hope this Information is enough?

TFS is a source control system from Microsoft. If you don't know this shortcut, then you most probably don't use it ;) Are you using something else? Ranorex provides integration with TFS, SVN or GIT source control system.

As for number of TCs/Recordings, it's not that big to be the cause of such slow test suite loading. Of course, it may also depend on the size of recordings? But since you are not using data connectors (big surprise!), I don't see anything obvious that could cause such slowdown. And without examining your test suite, it's hard to tell what could be the cause of your problem.

I would suggest you to contact Ranorex folks at [email protected]. But I guess they would like to see your problem in 'action' so the remote session may be requested/required.

thanks for your answers.

No we don't use any sourc Control System, we use the storage of Windows.

I found 2 data connectors for testing purposes, I will deactive them and test again.

I just start Ranorex again and I saw the message "parsing ..." in the right down corner for a few seconds, perhaps this is the cause?

I just deleted all the data connectors, but the start time didn't be faster.

The size of Ranorexfolder, with the files of test Suite, is about 11 GB, perhaps to big?

Well, 11GB () test suite could definitely be a reason of the slowdown :D Why it's so big? Do you use image-based automation or your recordings contains so many steps or what?

BTW, not using version control system, especially with your so huge test suite, is a BIG mistake. And I mean REALLY BIG mistake! You should adopt one right away otherwise you may very easily lost all your work.

Thanks for answering. Yes we use image-based automation (about 20 special test cases), I searched for the biggest files, I didn't find big files with size > 24 MB. We habe many rxrec-files. I think each test case has about 3-4 rxrec-files. Perhaps this is the reason.

I just spoke with our developers and they mean TFS is very slow. Do you have a tipp for a TFS?

Hi,

Well, the only suggestion regarding TFS I have is to not use integrated TFS in Ranorex Studio ;) Use VS Team Explorer instead. We discussed it here:

I just made an Analyse of the files of ranorex. I found following reasons:

Many, many test cases => many, many files, we would make one test with many test cases during the night, so we created one test suite. What is our experience with this problem?

Each click has stored a picture/screenshot about the clicked element in Ranorex => the files are up to 1 MB big for Little test cases. I shut down this function, is it possible to delete the screenshots, stored into Ranorex until today?

The repository has many unused items, I made a cleanup, no effect, is there a zipfunction for repository?

I saw many Picture files in Folder debug: Is it possible to delete them?

I found a solution: I separate the test Suite in 5-10 smaller test suites and start them over command line, so we can start them in a definied order and we can test during the whole night. Thanks a lot for your tipps.
