Hi Guys,

Steps to reproduce:
1. Use instrumentation wizard to install everything needed to identify flash elements on Internet Explorer.
2. Open Ranorex Spy and manually open up the flash page on Internet Explorer
3. Try track elements and it works fine.
4. Create a new project in ranorex
5. Select the open browser command and enter the same info as step 2.
6. Launch IE via ranorex.
7. Try track elements using ranorex spy
8. the flash instrumentation wizard pops up saying I have not instrumented properly.

Has anyone encountered something similar? :?

Here's my machine specs.

Windows 8.1
Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.16384
Ranorex Version 5.3.2

Ok I managed to do some digging.

Turns out when running IE as administrator, nothing get's written to the flash log file.
This may be the cause.

But in order to run my recording I need to start up Ranorex as Administrator.

How can you overcome this?

Are you sure that it doesn't write the log to a different location maybe? I seem to remember some applications will have different default write folders depending on the level they are run at, but I could be wrong... :D

Hey

yes i am fairly sure. I just tried it again using chrome manually and open up our internal flash sight and I can see that it's being written to the log file.

But when I open chrome via Ranorex using the Open browser action, nothing's written to the log file :? .

Same thing is happening with IE.

Any idea?

Hm... That is strange. I don't have any answers for you, sorry! :D

Maybe the Ranorex team knows something I don't...

Alright.

Pretty much the issue here is that if the browser is running as administrator mode then Ranorex fails to identify flash elements(the instrumentation wizard pops up). And nothing is getting written to the flash log.

But in order to run my recording I need to run Ranorex as administrator which will then open up the browser as administrator as well :( .

If anyone has any suggestions that will be great.

ok I've find a workaround in the time being.

1. Open up ranorex not as admin.
2. generate my recording then click buld
3. Run the exe from the bin folder to test my recording.

the above for now will prevent ranorex from having to run as admin everytime I click the play now button.
