V9 will not move mouse

Hi Guys

Second post today on V9!

I had some mouse problems after installing V9; initially the mouse would not move when I used Spy to track an item or use the Record function. Manage to fix this by unticking the Synchronous Mouse tab in settings.

None of the many recordings I have will move the mouse (imported from V5); I even created a new recording involving just 4 mouse clicks but still will not move the mouse when run.

Has anyone seen this before? I have never encountered this behaviour in the many years I have used Ranorex.

PS. The mouse does of course work to do stuff on the Application!

OS is Win 7 Pro, Version 6.1.7601 SP1 on a Proliant DL320e Gen8

Hi,

It's really weird. I've never experienced such a problem and I work with Ranorex since version 3 or so? However, I'm upgrading all my projects incrementally, not in just big leaps, like from V5 to v9.

So, have you tried to create a completely new solution (not just upgrading old one) with V9 and record simple 'click' action? Additionally, what happens, if you split mouse action to a separate mouse Move and mouse Click? And finally, have you tried Ranorex on another machine? Win 7 sounds somewhat obsolete and even though Ranorex should still work fine with W7, maybe there is something missing on your machine? Please review and eventually reinstall all required libs, as mentioned here:
https://www.ranorex.com/help/latest/ran ... uirements/

BTW, does the same happens with any application you try (e.g. calc or notepad) or is it isolated to just your AUT?

I did do a simple solution and although the record mouse moved (after un-ticking Synchronous Mouse), when it ran the mouse never moves.

I shall double check the System Reqs and see if that improves the situation.

Thanks

Rana

Hi,

This is really weird. Could you please record a simple test, for example with Ranorex web page and upload it here (entire test suite), so anyone here can try it? You can pack entire test suite via menu Tools >> Compress solution...

Ideally, try your test also on another computer. I think this problem is really caused by something on our PC. Either missing system requirement or something corrupted at OS level?

Hi,

I have to admit that there is indeed something weird about mouse actions/movements in 9.1! I'm recently experiencing similar problem in one of my tests. Mouse actions are seemingly performed, at least report shows them done, but mouse cursor is visibly off the desired position and of course, the action is not performed at all. The weird part is, it does not happen always. If I run the same test again, it pass.

Do you, by any chance, run your tests on virtual machine? Are you using Jenkins or similar CI tool?

Pavel, I too noticed that something was different about the mouse movements in Ranorex v9.1. I only upgraded recently but it was immediately obvious while I was testing the upgrade that Ranorex was moving the mouse faster on my normal development box. Our tests also seem to be executing faster as a result, but I'm still evaluating if that's indeed the case. It hasn't been causing us any issues though.

Additionally, in 9.1, the mouse is not moveable manually during Test execution via Agent - in 8.x it was always possible to interfere by Touchpad or mouse, like click something during a Wait(), now it is fixed in the middle of the screen. Keyboard input is still accepted, though.

Ooo, I've just hit a case where a mouse dragging operation is consistently failing with Ranorex v9.1, where it has been totally reliable in v8.2.1. I only briefly tested it with Ranorex v8.3.3 so can't be too sure there. I had to slow things down to get it work in v9.1. Still running through all of our tests, making sure things are good with v9.1. I had to set Mouse.DefaultMoveTime=300 to get it work.
