Windows 10 RDP recent changes issues?

Hi,

In my testing environment, I have a 'Master' VM machine that I connect to from my laptop using Windows 10 RDP (Remote Desktop Connection). When I'm on the Master VM, I then run a program called Royal TS to connect to all the VM's in my testing environment.

Prior to recent changes in RDP with a Windows 10 update, I was able to have access to multiple VM's in Royal TS, and have them running automation AND then I was able to 'Disconnect' from the Master VM so I could shut down my laptop and go home, and the automation would continue to run without issues. That is to say, there was still a GUI desktop available and when I had issues and a screen shot was taken, I could see the desktop and the problem.

Recently Windows 10 had an update to RDP and since then I cannot get this to work. When I disconnect from the Master VM, the connection to all the VM's within the Royal TS application is still working but the GUI gets lost and when the script fails (almost immediately) the screenshot is a black screen. When I reconnect to the Master VM, all the programs running on it are still there (so I know the connect was not lost), and in Royal TS my connections are still active to all the other VM's.

I wonder if anyone knows what changed with RDP and how to get it to work like it did before?

Thanks,

Aracknid.

Hello Aracknid,

Unfortunately, I have never heard of Royal TS. However, there is a well-known workaround for these kinds of issues. Have you already heard about theKeepSessionOpen.bat file? :) KeepSessionOpen

The file:
KeepSessionOpen.zip
Can you try to disconnect from the VM by clicking on this file and let me know if this helps with the automaton issue?

Yeah, I found this as a work around, but like I said, I never had to do this before the update. Something changed and it bugs me that I cannot figure out what and why. I figure there is probably a way to make it work like before... just haven't found it yet.

Royal TS is just one of many Terminal Service apps out there that makes working with multiple machines more manageable. I've been using it for years, as have a number of people in my office.

Thanks,

Aracknid

Hello Aracknid,

As mentioned already, I am not familiar with Royal TS. However, there are some settings under Terminal (PuTTY) in the Connection section that could make a difference: Terminal Putty Advanced
Can you check these?

Other that this, I have no idea. Maybe someone else will still write.
However, from the Ranorex point of view, since the batch file works, everything seems to be all right. Actually, it is a surprise to me that it worked without the batch file before. Are you sure that there was not previously some registry key set like this one? How do I keep an RDP session alive from the client side
